The WAVE - what is it?

The WAVE rally is Europe’s most widely known EV rally.  Led by Louis Palmer, a seasoned EV driver who has once circumnavigated the globe in a solar-powered vehicle, it has been going on since 2011 and is now into its 3rd edition. This 8-days long event is open only to 100% electric vehicles (or hybrids that, for the duration of the rally, have their petrol tank sealed and thus unusable). About 70 teams from all over Europe have signed up to participate in this year’s WAVE adventure, ready to cover 1800km across Germany, Austria and Switzerland and to help the rally realize its 5 principles:
  • to do everything for the benefit of e-mobility
  • to keep up the spirit of a people's movement
  • to develop the WAVE further as an instrument to support electric mobility
  • to manage the WAVE in a climate neutral way and to support the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energies
  • to offer each participant a unique experience
The three first points are rather obvious and do not need the explanation. 4th point is an interesting one. In practical terms, it means every team purchases a ‘green electricity allowance’ in kW which amounts to the electricity estimated to be used during the rally. Thus, EV driving in the WAVE means fully realizing the environmental benefits of electric mobility. And the last point – well, one only needs to look at the magnificent spots that the rally goes through (SONNENALP RESORT &
OFTERSCHWANG, Insel Mainau,
OBERÄGERI, SCHULHAUS, Goms, INTERLAKEN - just to name a few) to see what a unique experience for the participants that is.

You can check out the full route here.  CHAdeMO team is definitely looking forward to the adventure :)
